Artist Statement
My journey in dance began in the vibrant cultural landscape of Bangladesh, where the rhythms of Bengali folk traditions first stirred my passion for movement and expression. From those early days, I was drawn to the classical art of Kathak — its mathematical precision, its spiritual depth, and its extraordinary capacity to tell stories that transcend language and borders.
Pursuing my calling, I moved to India as an ICCR scholar, first to Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata and then to Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi — the city where Kathak finds its most sacred resonance. Under the tutelage of distinguished gurus, I have deepened my understanding of nritta, nritya, and natya, while simultaneously exploring contemporary, ballet, jazz, tap, and Bengali folk dance forms.
As a PhD researcher at BHU, my academic work is dedicated to examining Kathak through scholarly lenses — documenting its evolution, its pedagogical traditions, and its relevance in the modern world. I believe that a dancer must be both an artist and a thinker, and my practice reflects this duality: precision rooted in tradition, expression shaped by inquiry.
